For a third-year editorial class, I created Juicy, a magazine that combines visual art, photography, and educational articles on the social, environmental, and political impacts of the fruit we eat.
I'm really interested in the way food and its production affects people all over the world, so I wanted to make a magazine that explored this topic but approached it from an eye-catching angle. For the project, I reached out to speak with two organizations who are doing amazing work within the field of food sustainability and are worth looking into– Foodisms and Banana Link. The main goal with this publication was to highlight the problems faced by workers in agricultural industries, as well as emphasize the importance of our purchasing power.
My favourite part of the process was creating a fun series of photographs that explore the way in which we tend to exoticize tropical fruit and the places it comes from.
